Our Projects

Care for Children & Old Age in Kenya

Care for Children & Old Age in Kenya (NOWEK) is a National NGO founded and registered with NGO Board in 2005. Since its inception, NOWEK has been rooted in communities to support the elderly, children and women. Over the years, NOWEK has gained experience implementing cost-effective projects and built strong partnerships with communities, leaders, and stakeholders.

NOWEK is an active member of national and county forums including Protection, Education, WASH, Health, FSL and NFIs clusters. A notable achievement was the construction of a Primary School in collaboration with community members who contributed resources, labour, and food.

Child Rights and Equity

Children are born with dignity and rights equal to adults. NOWEK works to fulfill these rights, address childhood poverty, and break cycles of intergenerational poverty. We emphasize the role of parents and caregivers in nurturing children, and advocate for the most vulnerable.

Disaster Management

Emergencies such as war, climate change, and natural disasters disproportionately affect children. NOWEK responds to humanitarian crises, providing protection, relief, and adaptation strategies. We partner globally to strengthen preparedness and ensure children’s safety.

Economic Development

We believe poverty is multi-dimensional. Through inclusive economic growth, livelihoods training, and investments in agriculture and small businesses, NOWEK empowers families. In 2016 alone, over 15,000 people benefited from $500,000 invested in sustainable livelihoods.

Education for All

In counties like Siaya, Busia, Kakamega, Kisumu, Vihiga, and Bungoma, NOWEK supports literacy, reading clubs, provision of books, and removing cultural barriers to girls’ education. Early Childhood Development programs equip parents and caregivers to support infants and preschoolers.

Girls & Young Women Empowerment

  • Sanitary Towels: Providing menstrual products and education to keep girls in school.
  • Mentorship: Pairing girls with successful mentors from their communities for motivation and self-esteem.
  • FGM Prevention: Educating communities, rescuing girls, and forming support networks to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation.

Health & Maternal Child Health

NOWEK works to reduce malnutrition, fight preventable diseases, and improve access to essential health services. We also advocate for hygiene, nutrition, maternal health, and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Our EMTCT (Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission) project addresses HIV/AIDS in young women, maternal mortality, and empowers communities through awareness campaigns, testing, counselling, and prevention programs.
